When is it time for Respite Care? Is it something that I can plan for and arrange now in just in case an urgent need arises?

Things to consider…

Some caregivers struggle with the decision to place their loved one in temporary respite care. Others easily make the choice because it is a very temporary situation. Which group are you in?

If you have struggled with the decision, you may find it helpful to know that many of our respite care guests truly enjoy their “vacation” at the Arbors. They comment about how much they like the social interaction and many activities such as live entertainment and bingo.

Caregivers themselves use this time in various ways, from important business trips to the luxury of time to get caught up on personal endeavors.

If you have considered respite care for your relative, consider a visit to the Arbors.

We are owned and operated by the Stutchman Family. For over 35 years their research, planning and development in senior housing and Alzheimer’s care has produced successful and respected facilities in Northern Nevada. One of the many benefits to being family owned is the flexibility to create personalized programs and solutions for each resident.

The family and the dedicated staff at The Arbors truly enjoy the chance to make life better for our residents and their families.

The Arbors specializes in the care of people with Alzheimer’s and related memory illnesses. Its unique design was developed by the Stutchman family after extensive research and study. They visited multiple facilities across the nation and analyzed how residents interacted with their physical environment. The resulting community provides an inviting comfortable setting where programs, services, building and grounds empower, guide and comfort individuals with memory illness.

The Arbors offers private and companion suites in a comfortable neighborhood environment. Design features, such as visual cues and walking paths, help residents stay independent in finding their way. Memory boxes with photos of early life and biographies highlighting life achievements add to a sense of belonging. A light cheery and spacious environment throughout the building offers many community areas for socializing as well as quiet spots to sit and relax in peace. Our two 1500 square foot atriums complete with live plants, birds and plenty of natural light are perfect for those days that our Nevada weather turns extreme.

Our 3 acre site is fenced with wrought iron lined with roses and vines allowing for security without the feel of confinement. The outdoor spaces are perfect for exercise, gardening, BBQ’s, gathering flowers, bird watching and many other wonderful outdoor experiences.

Why Do Families Choose The Arbors Memory Care Facility?

We have a few ideas:

The Arbors philosophy of care is based upon respect, patience, dignity and the encouragement of independence. This enhances our resident’s quality of life, which is what everyone wants for a loved one with Alzheimer’s. (more)

The Arbors has consistently received an “A” on The Nevada State Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance annual survey. (more)

98% Client Satisfaction Rate (more)

Family Owned and Managed The Stutchman Family built, owns and handles daily operations for The Arbors with a proven track record as industry leaders. Their support of The Alzheimer’s Association and the local community is extensive. (more)

We understand that the communication and interaction provided by our caregivers along with structured therapeutic activities help residents to improve function and reduce behavioral stress. Our exceptional Activity and Social Programs… (more)

Our dedicated staff has over 270 years of combined experience caring for seniors with memory loss. (more)

The Arbors requires more staff training than any other memory facility in Nevada. Our training focuses on the fact that each person with memory impairment is unique and is affected in a different way. Understanding the disease process and learning a variety of ways to communicate allows our caregivers to reduce anxiety and create a comfort zone.

The Stutchman Family strongly believes in hiring the most qualified staff possible then giving them all the right tools to facilitate positive interaction with our residents. Every caregiver receives 16 hours of training prior to working a single shift. They are then paired with a senior level caregiver for at least three 8 hour shifts to further ensure their understanding of The Arbors’ commitment to the best possible care for our residents. All staff participate in at least two hours monthly of continuing education to ensure that our skills are always leading edge.

Comfort is key to successful memory care. Our facility was designed specifically for memory care. The interior is warm, inviting and of course, very clean. (more)

Strong Volunteer Program The multitude of volunteers that enjoy spending time at The Arbors ensure that our residents maintain their connection with the community. From high school choir practice to classic car shows in the parking lot…(more)

Our Philosophy

The Arbor’s philosophy of care is based upon respect, patience, dignity and the encouragement of independence.

We believe this means enhanced quality of life for your loved one with memory loss and for your family as a whole.

In understanding and attending to the unique needs and personal preferences of each individual, our residents receive the respect they deserve and encouragement to be as independent as possible.

We accomplish this by working closely with our resident’s families to discover any personal hobbies or career highs that we can emphasize while establishing our relationship and a plan of care.

We believe that even in the midst of the challenges that a memory illness can create, moments of joy can be found.

At The Arbors, we believe that activities must be offered in wide variety and should be engaging and enjoyable. Our activities include programming that sparks group participation, inspires individual creativity and facilitates physical and mental stimulation every day. Our resident activity program is designed and created with the resident’s interests and abilities in mind.

It is often while engaged in well-designed activities that residents truly reach out to others. Great friendships emerge from discovering that other residents share the same interests. Personalities emerge in the Moments of Memory art class where artists share afternoons joking and visiting with each other as they paint. Musical entertainers are especially beneficial in creating an atmosphere of fun, participation and feelings of well-being. Residents identify with many golden oldies and find enjoyment in the festive atmosphere. Many residents experience the joy of dancing during musical events, some for the first time.

Exercises, both physical and mental, become a regular part of residents’ daily life contributing a great deal to the residents’ overall wellbeing. The therapeutic environment improves resident health, boosting self-esteem, confidence, self-expression and a real sense of independence.

Our staff is highly trained to give any assistance that a resident may want or need, while always focusing on fostering independence. We believe that maximum independence is achieved by our residents by providing for a sense of accomplishment and daily satisfaction.

“When Mom and Dad reached the time in their lives when they needed a safe and secure memory care environment, The Arbors was very welcoming. Diana Roberts, Executive Director, encouraged our family to ask any questions we might have. She has a tremendous knowledge and the experience to assist families with difficult decision making. Diana is there for you. She is task oriented, and she makes things happen!

“The Activities Director is Norge. She is a lovely, caring person. Norge has lots of energy, and she is highly motivated. She works very hard at providing appropriate activities which incorporate all ages of volunteers to support the programs.

“The Resident Care Coordinator, Shannon, the Med Techs, Caregivers, Barbara and Travis, are all there to care for, communicate, and assist family members in the daily care of their loved ones.

“There are difficult times in this circle of life, but when you arrive at The Arbors, their guidance and support can truly help you and your loved ones down this bumpy, emotional road of living. What a treasure they are to our family.”
Linda, daughter

“For the first time in eight years I am not worrying every minute about my husband’s welfare. I have put my trust in The Arbors to do for him what I no longer can do.

“I am able to sleep at night. My nerves are calm and my health is good.”
Betty

“My husband and I wish to thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts. The level of care for my Dad was beyond our highest expectations. I think the thing I will always remember is the loving good humor you all showed to Dad and the other residents.

“I have been singing the praises of The Arbors since day one, and my respect and admiration has only strengthened through Dad’s long and often painful ordeal. We are so glad we chose your facility.

“Thank you all again.”
Janey and Dave

“We would like to thank you for the excellent care our Dad received at The Arbors. We were totally happy with The Arbors, it was clean, pleasant, and the staff was endlessly patient with Dad. Thanks a million for everything you did.
Wil and Bill

“Thank you for the excellent care you’ve given my Mom these last few months. She has made great improvements!”
Linda and Paul

“I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how happy I am with the decision to place my mother in The Arbors.

“My mother has been at The Arbors for approximately three months. She just completed a doctor’s visit and I was told that there had been a dramatic improvement in her overall health as a result of regular eating and consistency in the medication schedule, the credit for which goes to The Arbors.

“Prior to becoming a resident of The Arbors, my mother could best be described as depressed. The depression has now disappeared. She socializes daily with many friends she has met at The Arbors, even though she cannot remember their names from one day to the next! Between the socializing and the many ongoing activities, she simply does not have the time or need to be depressed.

“My mother states that she “loves it there.” The credit for her feeling goes to the management and your caring staff, and I truly appreciate all that you folks do.”
Gary

“Thank you so much for your excellent care and support for my Mom and her family. You are a special group and we could not have made it without you.”
John & Barbara and Families

“I am the daughter of a resident at the facility known as The Arbors. It is a residence for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. He has lived there for a year and a half.

“My father was very disoriented when he moved in and overmedicated. He did, however, like his room and most of all, the way in which he was treated. The staff greeted him as if he was a celebrity and he loves that kind of attention. The food is good and he seemed to adjust fairly well. A doctor got his medication adjusted and he became able to maneuver better.

“Under the Stutchman family management, I discovered that their number one priority was to care for the residents. They made my Dad’s life wonderful. The staff is encouraged to maintain good attitudes and treat the residents with dignity. The staff also receives training and learns the latest information regarding Alzheimer’s disease.

“I always feel happy when I visit my father because he is very content and calls the place home. My entire family is at ease knowing that he is safe and receiving the best care possible. This disease is difficult enough to witness in a loved one so knowing he is in a home away from home makes it a bit easier. I hope my father can spend the rest of his days here.
Kathy

“The facility is beautiful, well managed by Diana and her staff, extremely well maintained and well organized. The care unit staff is well trained, very detailed about the care they provide to their residents and appear proud of the work they are doing.

“The staff places great effort into providing an environment that is safe. The meals are delicious, beautifully prepared and well supervised to provide proper nutrition for my father’s diabetic condition. Maureen’s extensive experience and dedication is evident as is her great ability to communicate effectively with my Dad’s attending physicians and our family. Her charting is detailed and accurate.

“Most importantly, Dad tells me that he is very happy with his new residence.”
Dee

“My Mom & Dad wish to extend thanks for all the thoughtfulness and kindness extended to them during their recent stay. We all know it takes a special kind of person to be involved in health care. The Arbors seems to have selected the cream of the crop.”
Don and Barbara

“Our decision two years ago to place our family member at The Arbors has given us such peace of mind. Our deepest appreciation goes to Diana Roberts and her outstanding staff. They treat all with respect and lots of love. It’s just one big family and we are so grateful. Thank you,”
Linda

“Mom always eats ALL her food – it must be good! We’re blessed to have you all! Mom has always loved music. With all the groups (singers, dancers, piano players, etc.) it is such a joy to see her keeping the beat and singing along!
Donna

“Excellent care. Very happy with whole staff. We were over-whelmed by warm, loving and concerned staff—the entire facility was always immaculately clean and all residents were well cared for. Thank you for your dedication. We recommend you always.”
Judy

“Our entire family is so grateful for the wonderful care our mother is receiving at The Arbors. The beautiful rose gardens, the nicely decorated living/dining spaces and the friendly & attentive staff provide the environment where we know our Mom is safe and happy.”
Patricia

“Special thanks to Shannon for all her knowledge & help. The Arbors has given us such peace of mind after placing our family member there over 2 years ago. Our deepest appreciation goes to Diana Roberts and her outstanding staff. They treat all with respect and lots of love. It’s just one big family and we are so grateful. Thank you again.”
Linda

“I have had to select Alzheimer’s care facilities for several relatives and The Arbors rates high using any measurement. Another factor to be considered is the reasonable costs charged by The Arbors. Thanks, and keep up the good work.”

Respite Care

At The Arbors, our respite care provides short-term breaks that relieve stress, restore energy, and promote balance in your life while providing your loved one a safe secure living environment.

The challenges of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s are part of daily life. It is no secret that the life of a caregiver is a demanding and difficult job. Accepting reliable help is essential for maintaining personal health, well being and resilience for you, the caregiver.

Seeking support and maintaining health are vital in promoting personal wellness. Utilizing respite care prior to becoming exhausted, isolated, or overwhelmed is ideal and anticipating regular relief can become a lifesaver. Whether life throws a curve ball or a great opportunity, it is nice to know that you have a plan in place.

Respite takes many forms but comes down to these two basic ideas; sharing the responsibility for caring for your loved one and getting the support you need. Finding the right balance requires persistence, patience, and preparation. Our program is professional, focused, caring and fun. Come by and pick up your pre-registration forms. Respite rates are $150.00 per day with a three-day minimum.

For your respite care needs, choose The Arbors, where memory care is our specialty.
